A few comments on your privacy and this website.

This website does some tracking for functional and statistical purposes using cookies and in some cases will store details like your email address. We also log the ip address you used to connect to the site for a short period for fault-finding purposes. The network you connected from and the pages you visited are stored for statistical purposes. None of the information stored can identify you as an individual. We sometimes use Cloudflare’s CDN to deliver content. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics for statistics. For more details see CloudFlare Privacy & Security Policy.

The paragraph below is not valid anymore but is left here because the links to Google may be useful. This site has been de-googled as far as possible but you never know. The map on the “Where I’ve been” page still uses the Google maps api.

We use google adsense to publish ads on this site. This helps to pay hosting costs but we certainly do not make money from it. Google and it’s partners sets cookies and use other methods to try determine what you are interested in to serve targeted ads. If you do not want them to do this you can set a “do not track” option in your browser. For more details see http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/. Also visit Google My Activity to see and adjust the data Google stores about you.

You may also see sharing buttons at the bottom of each page or post. To use these you must be subscribed to the various services and have accepted their privacy conditions. They may also attempt to track your web activity . Again, set the “do not track” option in your browser.

To minimise tracking you can also use an adblocker. Ghostery seems to work well.

Your e-mail address is requested when you comment on the site. The only reason we ask for your e-mail address is to be able to notify you of new comments or posts. You have to opt in to notifications at the bottom of the page/post to receive e-mail from us. If you do not want to be notified or don’t want us to store your e-mail address, you can enter a dummy address e.g. [email protected] or [email protected]. These won’t interfere with actual valid domain names. We will never willingly give your e-mail address to a third party.

If you do not wish cookies to be set you can disable them in your browser and if you disable Javascript we will not be able to serve you ads or keep statistics of your visits. You may however find that most websites, including this one, will not function properly if you do this.
